Weft Extensions

Double machine weft are ideal for medium to thicker hair types. Ultra thin wefts are ideal for thin to medium hair types. May require salon application depending on how it’s applied and each application can last up to 9 weeks. Requires maintenance every 6 to 9  weeks if applied via the beaded or sewn in method. Can also be applied and removed daily without salon application when worn as a ponytail enhancer. Can be easily styled and worn up up or down when applied.

Tape Extensions

Ideal if you have fine to medium, straight natural hair. May require salon application and each application can last up to 9 weeks. Requires maintenance every 4 to 8 weeks. Can be easily styled and worn up or down when applied.

Swiss Lace Frontals & Closures

Ideal if you would like a fuller hairline or simply wish to protect your own hairline from regular heat and styling. May require a salon application and is sewn onto your natural hair.

Clip-in Extensions

Ideal for beginners and occasional wear. Suitable for all hair types. Easy to apply and fast to remove, clip-in extensions do not require salon application and need minimal maintenance. Can be easily styled and worn up or down when applied.

This will vary according to the thickness and length of your natural hair. It will also vary according to the type of hair extension and the finish you are looking for. As a general guide, we recommend buying more than less in case you need more hair to achieve your desired look.

Russian virgin remy hair is amongst the most sought after in the world because it is incredibly light weight and silky. It is the perfect extension choice if you have finer, straighter and lighter-coloured hair.

It is a rare to find and is generally lighter in colour and in feel in comparison to Indian hair which is slightly thicker. Russian natural hair structure (hair pattern) tends to be straight with a very gentle wave when washed and air dried.

Indian virgin remy hair is also one of the world’s most sought after, for different reasons.

It is perfect if you have medium to thicker textured hair. Indian hair is silky and has a naturally rich dark chocolate colour and wavy structure, inherent from the Indian tradition of braiding hair.

In addition, Indian hair offers the advantage of 3 different textures: straight, wavy and curly.

Silk Lengths hair extensions are all 100% human hair so you can style, cut, colour and treat your extensions as your own hair.

Hydration is key to long lasting and silky hair extensions and we advise using a quality serum or a natural hair oil such as organic Argan or Jojoba oil to the tips and mid length of the hair, when required.

A heat protector is advisable before direct heat is applied to your extensions.  Do keep in mind that excessive heat, excessive washing and heavy products may reduce the silkiness and lifespans of your extensions.

We advise using sulphate free products as sulphate can cause drying of the hair which may result in tangling and loss of sheen of time.

WASHING

You can wash your extensions as you would your own hair. Gently massage scalp area and all over hair with shampoo and avoid a scrubbing motion to prevent tangling.

A sulphate free shampoo and a quality conditioner are advisable during each wash.

Avoid washing with hot water which can cause cuticles to swell and in turn can create split ends. Instead, wash with luke warm water and rinse with cold water which helps close the hair cuticles which boosts hair shine.

Excessive washing may be drying to your hair extensions and it advisable to wash them only when required.

All coloured hair will look and feels its best with weekly use of a quality hair masque after washing.

Yes you can!

Silk Lengths hair extensions that contain 'natural' on the colour description refers to hair that has never been coloured. Our natural coloured hair can be dyed or highlighted.

Our coloured hair can also be coloured but with a non-permanent hair dye and we do not recommend dyeing it a lighter shade, only a darker shade.

For best results, all colouring should be done by a professional hair colourist.

All Silk Lengths hair extensions made to the highest quality to ensure the protection of your natural hair.

It is important that all semi-permanent extensions are safely applied by a professional hair stylist (except clip-in extensions) and that regular maintenance is carried out to maintain the good health of your natural hair.

Well-applied extensions can actually protect your natural hair, by giving it a break from regular use of heat and colour for example.

Yes you can!

Chlorine from swimming pools can be drying to all hair types so we recommend that you wash and condition your extensions after swimming .

Coloured hair in particular needs extra hydration especially after exposure to chlorine. We also advise applying a high quality hair serum to the tips of your hair extensions when dry, as often as required.

Silk lengths tape hair extensions are bonded by hypoallergenic polyurethane glue which holds the extensions against your natural hair. Excessive oil or sweat can lead to the loosening of the bond so it’s important that you dry your hair after a sweaty workout for example. The same applies to swimming and all other activities that may wet the glue.

You can email a photo of your natural hair colour in natural daylight to contact@silklengths.com and we will do our best to advise the closest shade to your hair. Please keep in mind that hair colours may appear different on different screens. 

This will depend on the amount of extensions you require and semi permanent extensions may need salon application.

On average:

  30 minutes to 1 hour for tape in extensions applications.

  30 mins to 2 hours for weft extensions if beaded or sewn in.

  5 minutes to 15 minutes for clip-in extensions.

Virgin remy human hair is the purest and highest quality hair available on the market. It is made from 100% human hair that has never been enhanced with chemicals of any kind and will give you the most natural looking and beautiful finish.

The term remy refers to the finest hair type with cuticles intact and facing in the direction of natural hair growth. This eliminates any kind of tangling and allows gorgeous hair movement.

A weft extensions is made using a piece of fabric which holds the collection of hair strands together. It is commonly used as a semi-permanent extension which can be sewn or beaded onto your natural hair and an application can last up to 9 weeks.

It can also be used as a ponytail enhancer when wrapped around your own ponytail and secured with hair pins.

The size and finish of the weft can determine how natural the extensions look and feel.

There are different types of wefts including the more commonly used:

Double Machine Weft

As the name implies, is made by machine and hand. The hair is sewn into the weft twice to ensure minimal shedding of the hair strands attached to it. This weft is popular if you have medium to thicker hair but can be used by all. It lays flat, will blend perfectly with your natural hair and is used to add volume or length. We do not recommend cutting the weft as it can increase shedding if hair is accidentally.

Silk Lengths double machine wefts are sold in packets of 1 weft weighing approximately 100grams.

Hand Tied Weft

Made and finished entirely by hand to ensure an ultra-thin weft finish which is less detectable to touch vs the double machine weft. Hand tied weft is the ideal choice if you have thinner hair but can be used by all. This weft should not be cut. Hand tied weft are the easiest and often a preferred choice for making hand crafted wigs.

Silk Lengths hand tied weft are sold in sets of 5 wefts weighing 20 grams each.

Growing in popularity, the tape in extensions is a semi-permanent hair extension method that is quick and easy to apply and can last from 4-9 weeks. Tape extensions are amongst the most comfortable and lightest of hair extensions to wear as they do not feel ‘tight’ or heavy on your head. Each individual tapes weighs a mere 2 grams and can be reused up to 4 times making them highly economical.

Tape extensions are thin hair wefts, pre-taped with a safe hypoallergenic polyurethane glue, that is bonded in between your own hair like a ‘sandwich’. It is the most requested hair extension method in salons worldwide and an idea choice if you have fine to medium or naturally straighter hair. It requires zero tools and zero heat and typically takes less than an hour to apply. New tape is required after removal should you wish to reuse.

Clip-in hair extensions are the easiest and fastest way to get longer, thicker hair in a matter of minutes. Hair accessories do not get easier than this and it's an excellent way to experiment!

Silk Lengths clip-in hair extensions are sold with the clips already attached to the hair extensions so you can apply them at home without a visit to the hair salon.

They are available in a range of 5 colours and in lengths 18'', 20'' and 22 inches. Clip-in extensions are versatile because you can remove them at the end of each day and neatly put them away for your next wear. Sold in either 100/120grams made of 7 pieces or clips extensions or 150 grams made of 10 pieces of clip-in extensions.

Tape extensions can be easily removed by adding a small amount of liquid coconut oil on top of the hair extensions where your natural hair is bonded. If you prefer a less oily removal, an alcohol-based tape extension remover is also an effective choice. Once the liquid has been applied to the tape, you should leave it for around 1 minute and peel off from the corners until the tape comes off.
